Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Infotel is going to launch LTE ready Android tablets at Rs.8000/- in India in coming months. Reliance Infotel is the only company with pan India license to launch BWA services and they have selected the new LTE (Long Term Evolution) for better coverage and connectivity.
If the news is correct, the Reliance tablet comes at one fourth price of the high end tablets such as Apple Ipad and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, which costs around Rs 35,000. It is still half cheaper than the the Olivepad from Olive Communications and Notion Ink’s Adam tablet.
The detailed specification of Reliance Infotel Tablet will be announced soon. Only details available are that it will be based on Android and will use LTE for the broadband technology.
As you are aware Long term Evolution, LTE technology is the 4G technology and will have much better connectivity and throughput. The launch of 4G broadband in india will call for much better low cost broadband in india and existing players like Reliance netconnect and airtel 3G will feel the pinch and reduce the tariff to retain the customers.
